Organization

As scientific directors and speakers of this joint initiative serve the four senior researchers D. Raabe and F. Roters (MPIE) and P. Gumbsch and H. Riedel (IWM).

Formally, the research directions are distributed over four integrated projects. Projects 1 and 2, which are inclined towards fundamental issues of metal physics and homogenization theory are mainly associated with the MPIE. The more application-driven Projects 3 and 4 on the other hand are focussed on by the IWM.

An overview of the organizational structure of the initiative can be found in the table below:

Exchange of people and ideas

IWM - Applications

  • Investments/costs: workstation, experiments, software licenses, business trips
  • Expansion of project departments by scientists from third-party funds
  • Evaluation of cooperation after three years (e.g. by board of trustees)
  • Continuation as self-supporting groups (IWM Leistungsbereich, MPIE Nachwuchsgruppe)

MPIE: Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung, Düsseldorf

IWM: Fraunhofer-Institut für Werkstoffmechanik, Freiburg
